What is a Servo?

A servo is a mechanical unit that is used in remote controlled helicopters to control the rudder, cyclic and collective via linkages. A typical six-channel helicopter will have four servos.

. One servo for elevator that controls the up and down pitch of the helicopters nose.
. One servo for ailerons that controls left and right roll.
. One servo for rudder that controls left and right yaw.
. One servo for collective that controls the pitch of the main rotor blades.

When you move the sticker on the transmitter, a signal is transmitted to the helicopter receiver. The receiver will recognize the appropriate channel so that the correct servo is activated. Movement of the servo arm is accomplished by means of a small electrical motor and gears inside the servo casing.
Because a servo plays an intricate part in controlling the helicopter, it is very important that all servos are in proper working condition and of high quality.
