WALKERA M120D01
discussion/review |
Before I
start with the review, I
would like to compliment
EHIROBO on their excellent
service. Shopping with them
is safe, and shipment is
fast. Not only are their
helicopters well priced, but
EHIROBO's after sales service
are outstanding, and their
technical team are always
willing to give you a
helping hand no matter what.
I'm sure that
all R/C
helicopter
pilots will be
impressed when
they first lay
their eyes on
this little
helicopter. The
Walkera M120D01
is a stunning
looking
helicopter with
all its carbon
fiber and CNC
machined parts. The
helicopter is
well package in
a carton box to
ensure that no
damage will
occur when
shipped.

Technical and
Designing Review |
The Walkera M120D01 is a 120 size 3D capable
helicopter that utilizes the 3-axis gyro and flybarless
balance control system that ensures for stable flight in
normal mode and stunt mode. All three the gyros are
incorporated on the RX-2616V receiver. The aileron and
elevator gyro sensitivity can be adjusted on the receiver,
while the tail gyro gain is adjusted remotely on the
transmitter. The signal control speed from the elevator and
aileron servo can be adjusted on the receiver with the
Balance Delay pot. The amount of movement for the elevator,
aileron and tail servos can be adjusted with the servo
extend pots on the receiver. Then you also have
the flight mode switch on the receiver. This allows you to
fly the Walkera M120D01 with all three gyros activated, or
just with the tail gyro activated.
The main
rotor blades, mainframe,
tail boom and vertical fin
on the stock Walkera M120D01
are all carbon fiber. The
rotor head, swash, upper
main shaft bearing block and
tail rotor assembly are all
CNC metal parts. Three
WK-02-1 digital servos
control the swash, while
one WK-03-4 digital servo
the tail. The 3.7V 850 mAh
LiPo battery slides into
position from the front
below the receiver tray.
This LiPo battery position
gives the Walkera M120D01 a
perfect CG. I found the
landing skids very strong,
and I'm sure that they will
handle hard landings with
ease. Two graphite tail boom
struts ensures for a solid
tail boom that is critical
for 3D stunts.
The tail
rotor is driven with a metal
shaft that runs on three
ball bearings inside the
tail boom. This ensures for
a very smooth and quiet
shaft driven tail rotor
assembly. The WK-WS-15-001
12000 kv brushless main
motor sits off centre
between the receiver and
main shaft on a plastic
motor mount, and the
WK-WST-20A-L speed
controller just below the
receiver. The Walkera
M120D01 comes stock with a
beautiful black and red
plastic canopy that is held
in place with two canopy
nuts to the main frame. The
overall quality of the
Walkera M120D01 is very
good.

There is no
setup needed if
you buy the
Walkera M120D01
helicopter with
the
WK-2603
Transmitter.
A complete
helicopter setup
is done at the
Walkera factory,
so all you need
to do is to
fine-tune the
default settings
to suite your
flying skills.
I'm using my
WK-2801PRO
Transmitter
to fly my
Walkera M120D01.
to view my
WK-2801PRO
Transmitter
settings. On the
video below, my
receiver pot
settings are as
follow:
• RUDDER EXT:
70%
• ELEV AILE EXT:
80%
• AILE GYRO: 50%
• ELEV GYRO: 50%
• BAL DELAY: 70%
It is always
good practice to
give any new RC
helicopter a
thorough
pre-flight
inspection
before its first
flight. Make
sure that all
the screws are
tight and that
the main motor
gear messing
with the main
gear is set
correctly. Also
check that the
main rotor blade
tracking is 100%
in line.

Flying the
WALKERA M120D01 |
The Walkera
M120D01 flies
great on the
WK-2603
Transmitter
factory default
settings.
The 3-axis gyro
and flybarless
balance control
system works
great, and gives
the Walkera
M120D01
outstanding
stability.
Transition into
forward flight
is smooth and
executed
effortless.
There is no nose
up or down
pitching
tendencies when
rolling out of a
bank. This
helicopter flies
straight as an
arrow in forward
flight.
Tail movements
are crisp, and
pirouette speed
can be adjusted
with gyro gain
adjustments on
the transmitter.
The tail gyro is
solid with no
signs of tail
wagging during
flight.
Basic 3D
maneuvers like
loops and roll
are executed
with ease. I
personally think
that the Walkera
M120D01 needs a
bit more power
for extreme 3D
maneuvers. A
higher kv motor
will resolve
this problem,
but for now I'm
happy with the
stock setup. The
Walkera M120D01
will fly about
nine minutes in
normal flight
mode on the 3.7V
850mAh Li-Po
Battery. I have
set my
transmitter
alarm timer to
five minutes for
3D flight.
Sometimes one
gets
disorientated
when the
helicopter is
flown at a
distance due to
the black
canopy. I would
have preferred a
brighter colour
canopy on this
small
helicopter.
Other than that,
the Walkera
M120D01 flies
great.

Setup e-Guide |
|
I came across this excellent R/C
helicopter e-book. You will find this e-book very
helpful. All tips included in this book can be applied
to any collective pitch helicopter.
Illustrations and advice, tips
and settings, basically everything the factory manual
failed to provide plus much more. Blade 400, T-Rex 450,
or any other quality collective pitch helicopter,
electric or nitro, it doesn't matter - this RC
helicopter tips e-guide/book will help.
|
From the smallest micro electrics
to the largest turbines, if your helicopter has a
120º or 140º CCPM swashplate and you are intimidated by
the setup process, this e-book
will answer all your questions, and perhaps several
others you didn't even know about.
