Walkera 4F200
discussion/review |
The new Walkera
4F200 is my
first flybarless
helicopter with
3-axis-gyro
system of the
Walkera range.
At first glance,
it is evident
that no short
cuts were taken
with the
materials used
in the
construction of
the Walkera
4F200. The
helicopter
really looks
good, and the
supplied top of
the range
Walkera
WK-2801PRO
transmitter is
an extra bonus.
I'm very
impressed...

Technical and
Designing Review |
The Walkera 4F200 comes standard with three
carbon fiber main rotor blades. The rotor head, blade
holders and swash are all metal. All three feathering shafts
runs on one ball bearing each that ensures for smooth
pitch changes. I'm very impressed with the construction of
the main frame. The main frame consists out of two glass fiber
side plates, glass fiber battery tray, glass fiber landing
skid support plate, tail boom holder, metal spacers and tree
metal bearing blocks for the main shaft and tail belt gear.
All parts screwed together, gives the Walkera 4F200 a solid main
frame.
The 7.4V
1500 mAh/20C LiPo battery is
situated in the nose of the
helicopter, and is secured
in position on the battery
tray with the supplied hook
and loop Velcro strap. The
LiPo battery position gives
the Walkera 4F200 a perfect
CG, and there is no need to
move the battery forward or
backwards. All three swash
servos are neatly tucked
away inside the main frame
for optimal swash movements.
The main gear is driven by
the powerful
WK-WS-21-004 Walkera
brushless motor through a 17
tooth metal pinion gear, and
gives the main rotor head
plenty of torque to cope
with 3D maneuvers.
The 20Amp
WK-WST-20A-2 Walkera
ESC is situated on the side
of the main frame just below
the main gear. What I like
about the Walkera 4F200 is
its strong landing skids.
They are made from strong
plastic and aluminum tubing.
The Walkera 4F200 utilizes a
tree axis gyro system that
stabilizes the helicopter in
the rolling, pitching and
yawing axis. The tree axis
gyro system is incorporated
into the 2.4 GHz receiver,
and
is situated on top of the
tail boom-mounting block.
All three gyro axis
sensitivity can be adjusted
on the receiver to suite
your flying skills.
A fast
digital tail servo ensures
for fast and crisp rudder
responses, and is situated on
the tail boom. Two carbon
tail boom struts gives the
aluminum tail boom extra
support and strength. The
Walkera 4F200 is equipped
with a tree bladed belt
driven metal tail rotor
system. Each tail rotor
feathering shaft runs on one
ball bearing each. Tail
rotor pitch changes are very
smooth and effortless. The
horizontal and vertical
stabilizer fins are laser
cut out of glass fiber. The high quality plastic
canopy is easy removable for
battery changes. Two canopy
nuts secures the canopy
firmly to the main frame,
and won't come lose during
flight.
The include
Walkera WK-2801PRO 2.4 GHz
transmitter has an eight
model memory, and is
programmable to fly
helicopters or planes. I
found the WK-2801PRO
transmitter to be very user
friendly. Programming and
setup is a breeze with the
help of the transmitter
manual. Eight AA batteries are needed to
operate the transmitter. It
would have been nice if
Walkera included a
rechargeable transmitter
battery pack and charger
with the WK-2801PRO
transmitter.
Overall I'm
very impressed with the
Walkera 4F200 construction.
Walkera is just getting
better and better with their
new helicopter designs.
Great job...

The Walkera
4F200 setup is
done at the
factory by
professional
technicians, so
there is no
setup to be
done. It is just
good practice to
do an overall
pre-flight check
before your
first flight. If
you accidentally
erase the
Walkera 4F200
model memory
from your
2801PRO
transmitter,
reprogramming
can be done with
the supplied
Walkera 4F200
programming
sheet. Each main
rotor blade are
balanced and set
to track
perfectly at the
factory.
Read the manual
carefully before
your first
flight.
The Walkera
4F200 is
designed for
intermediate and
experienced
pilots, and is
definitely not a
beginner's
helicopter. At
first I thought
that there was
something wrong
with my
helicopter as it
was pitching
forward and
rolling to the
right just
before lift off.
The trick is not
to touch the
aileron or
elevator
controls until
the helicopter
is lifting off
into a hover. It
seems that the
3-axis gyro
system gets a
bit confused
with cyclic
inputs while the
helicopter is on
the ground.
Once the
helicopter is in
the air, it is
very stable and
easy to control.
Transition into
forward flight
is very good,
and the tail is
solid as you
apply power to
accelerate
forward. Rolling
left and right
is very
responsive, and
there is no nose
up pitching
tendencies when
you roll out of
a turn. The
helicopter flies
straight as an
arrow. The
Walkera 4F200
flies very well
with the 3-axis
gyro settings
set at the
factory. For
faster or less
response,
pitching,
rolling and tail
gyro sensitivity
can be adjusted
to suit your
flying skills.
At first I was a
bit sceptic to
how well the
flybarless
3-axis gyro
system will
work, but I'm
not
disappointed. It
works flawless
in normal and 3D
flight. The tail
is solid during
the whole
flight, and
won't start to
wander as the
LiPo battery
loses power
during flight.
My timer on the
2801PRO
transmitter is
set to eight
minutes. Eight
minutes flights
per
7.4V 1500mAh Li-Po
Battery won't
put excessive
strain and
drainage on the
LiPo, and will
result in longer
lifetime.
Overall the
Walkera 4F200
flies very
stable without
any bad habits.
