Walkera 4#3B V3
discussion/review |
Just when you
think that
things can't get
any smaller,
Walkera launches
the new Walkera
4#3B V3 double
brushless motor
helicopter. What
really amazes me
is the size of
the brushless
tail motor. This
tiny motor is
the smallest
brushless motor
that I have ever
seen on any R/C
helicopter. Wow,
what is next?

Technical and
Designing Review |
I will make
some comparison between the
Walkera 4#3B brushed version
and the Walkera 4#3B V3
double brushless version in
this review. The new Walkera
4#3B V3 basically is the
same helicopter as the
Walkera 4#3B brushed
version, but better. The
Walkera 4#3B V3 has two
external speed controllers,
two brushless motors and a
different receiver to
accommodate the two speed
controllers.
Let’s
start with the main rotor.
The main rotor blades are
made from a strong durable
plastic. They are a bit
flexible, but in a good way.
Due to the Walkera 4#3B V3
light weight, the load
factor on the main rotor
blades are minimal, so the
flexibility of the main
rotor blades doesn’t affect
the flight performance of
the helicopter at all. You
will get away with minimal
or no damage to the main
rotor blades when you crash
due to its flexibility.
The rotor head assembly is all
anodized metal like the previous Walkera 4#3B. The blade holder rock
side ways on two miniature high quality ball bearings. The
balancing bar for the flybar-paddles is made from steel. Two
little screws on the flybar connectors can adjust the paddles. The metal swash plate is very
simple with two servos connected to it via ball linkages.
The simplified 90° swashplate with CNC-cut rotor head
features durability and stability.
The main shaft runs through the
main frame on two ball bearings. The plastic main gear is connected
on the bottom end of the main shaft. The Walkera 4#3B V3
have two 3.5g servos. One servo for elevator, and one servo
for aileron. As small as the are, they give precise elevator
and aileron movement for excellent cyclic control. The
servos are held in position by one bracket on the main frame which make replacement
very easy if necessary.
The main motor of the Walkera 4#3B
V3 is a brushless KV11000 motor which gives the
helicopter plenty of power for its size. A great improvement
compared to the brushed Walkera 4#3B. The external speed
controller (WK-WST-10A) for the brushless main motor is situated below
the receiver on the main frame.
The Walkera 4#3B V3
has a four
channel 2.4G receiver for elevator, aileron, rudder and
throttle control. The gyro is build into the receiver, and
gyro sensitivity can be adjusted on the
receiver if needed. There is no servo extend adjustment on
this receiver, so for more swash movement, you need to move
the servo linkage ball to the outer hole on the servo arm.
The external speed controller (WK-WST-10A-LT) for the brushless tail motor is
situated next to the aileron servo.
You will either get
one 3.7V 500mAh LiPo or two 3.7V
400mAh batteries with this kit. The 500mAh LiPo will give the Walkera 4#3B V3 about 8 minutes of flight time,
and the 400mAh LiPo about five minutes. The LiPo
battery simply slides into the battery tray, which make battery
changes very easy. The landing skids are made of
extremely thin spring steel, and although they are very
light, they will handle hard landings with ease without
breaking.
The tail boom is made
out of a hollow graphite rod with the tail motor wires
running through it. At the end of the tail boom you will
find the brushless tail motor holder and tail fin. The
brushless tail motor ensures for enough power
to overcome the torque of the main rotor. Walkera did
away with the reduction tail motor gears, and the tail rotor
is directly driven by the small brushless tail motor.
The Walkera 4#3B V3 comes with a Li-Po
battery charger. A red light will be on during charging, and
a steady green light will show after charging is complete.
It will take approximately 40-60 minutes for the Li-Po to be
fully charged after flight. The 2.4G transmitter allows the transmitter to bind
to the helicopter receiver with precise code pairing and
strong anti-jamming (no more worries about interference
while flying).

Flying the
Walkera 4#3B V3 |
Read the manual
carefully before
your first
flight. Make
sure that all
batteries are
fully charged.
The Walkera 4#3B V3 is the best four channel
double brushless helicopter for its size that I have
ever flown. You will be amazed how well this little helicopter
flies. This
Walkera 4#3B V3 can be flown outside in no wind conditions,
but is truly an indoor helicopter that will give you hours and
hours of good fun. Compared with the brushed Walkera 4#3B,
the Walkera 4#3B
V3 is more
stable due the
increased
weight of about
15 grams.
Take care on you first flight. Don’t assume that the
helicopter is trimmed correctly. Hover first and trim the
helicopter so that it hovers still in one spot without any
input from the elevator, rudder and aileron stickers on the
transmitter. Hovering the Walkera 4#3B V3 is fairly
easy once trimmed. Transition into forward flight is
exceptional good for such a little helicopter. I found that a bit
of nose down elevator trim makes forward flight much easier.
Left pirouette speed is a bit faster than to the
right.
The gyro of the Walkera 4#3B
V3 is solid, and nothing bad can be said about it. Out of
the box, the elevator and aileron extend is fine for the
first flight. I have adjusted my elevator servo linkage to
the outer hole on the servo arm for more movement. Now my
Walkera 4#3B V3 is responding fast to elevator inputs, just
as I like it. Overall the Walkera 4#3B V3 flies very well,
and I can highly recommend this helicopter from Walkera.

Reason to buy
the Walkera 4G3
V2 |
The Walkera 4#3B
V3 is a nice
indoor
helicopter, but
can also be flow
outside in no
wind conditions.
It is quite easy
to fly if you
have previous
flying
experience.
It has two
powerful
brushless
motors.
The brushless
motors have a
longer lifespan
compared to
brushed motors
The build in
gyro is very
good.
It is cheap to
maintain.
The parts are
easily
obtainable.
The Walkera 4#3B
V3 is quite
crash resistant.
Flying the
Walkera 4#3B V3
is a pleasurable
experience, and
it’s not that
expensive to
buy.
